Day-by-Day Itinerary

Arrival and Village Exploration
Day 1)

Agenda :

​

  • ​Pick-up: Medan Kualanamu Airport or your hotel.

  • Transport: Private air-conditioned vehicle to Bukit Lawang (3-4 hours).

  • Activities: Explore the village, visit the bat cave, relax at bungalow.

Elephant Adventure in Tangkahan (Day 2)

Agenda :​

 

  • ​Transport: Aircon jeep to Tangkahan (2 hours).

  • Register at the park office.

  • Wash and feed the elephants.

  • Lunch at a traditional restaurant.

  • Swim in a natural hot spring and visit nearby caves (time/weather permitting).

  • Return to Bukit Lawang.

Jungle Trekking in Gunung Leuser National Park (Day 3)

Agenda :​

 

  • Trekking (6-7 hours) to see wild orangutans and other wildlife.

  • Learn about local flora, fauna, and traditional medicinal plants.

  • Set up camp by the Bohorok river, swim, help prepare dinner, enjoy a bonfire and jungle games.

Return from Jungle Trek
(Day 4)

Agenda :​

 

  • ​Morning wildlife spotting and waterfall visit.

  • Traditional rafting back to the village.

  • Free time in Bukit Lawang.

Journey to Lake Toba (Day 5)

Agenda :​

 

  • ​Transport: 7-hour drive from Bukit Lawang to Lake Toba.

  • Visit traditional market and Sipisopiso waterfall.

  • Arrive in Lake Toba, check-in at the hotel.

  • Explore the village or relax.

Samosir Island Tour (Day 6)

Agenda :​

 

  • Tour of Samosir Island: traditional Batak House, Batak culture, Batak architecture, and local coffee growing techniques.

  • Visit cultural sites: Simanindo (Huta Bolon), Ambarita (megalithic stone), and Tomok (Sidabutar dynasty graves).

  • Return to the hotel.

Return to Medan (Day 7)

Agenda :​

 

  • ​Transport: Return journey from Samosir Island to Medan.

  • Visit cultural highlights in Medan: Maimun Palace, Great Mosque, Tjong A Fie’s mansion, or other sites.

  • Drop-off at Medan airport or hotel.

Additional Information

Preparation

  • Pack light (ideally under 10kg).

  • Bring personal items, insect repellent, sunblock, and waterproof bags.

  • Comfortable, waterproof shoes with good grip.

  • Clothing: Long sleeves/trousers optional, nights can be cold in the jungle.

  • Small backpack, swimwear, and a small towel.
